California Spangles

Geschichte
The California Spangles cat was originally created with conservation of wildcats in mind. It was thought that by producing a breed of cat thats fur resembled a wildcat, the poaching of wildcats for their fur would decrease. Paul Casey, who started developing the breed in the early 1970s, believed that people wouldn’t want to buy fur that resembled their pet cat. By 1985 Casey had achieved his goal and the California Spangles cat breed was born. Casey achieved the desired wildcat look without using any wildcats. Casey used an 11 generation plan to create this wild looking breed. He started out with a long hair Angora and a traditional Siamese cat. He then crossbred the offspring with a variety of breeds including the Abyssinian, British Shorthair, American Shorthair, and the Manx. The end result was a cat with a wonderful spotted coat.
Verhalten
Despite having a wildcat look, the California Spangles has no wild genetics so its behaviour is typical of a domestic cat. This cat is a big fan of moving objects and hunting. So if you are particularly fond of the wildlife in your garden it may be best to keep this breed indoors. California Spangles are very playful and active. They are also intelligent and a good candidate for clicker training. Even with all this energy, the breed is still very affectionate and will enjoy your company.
Varietäten
All California Spangles have tabby spots. They come in Silver, bronze, red, blue, black, brown, and charcoal base colour.
